Foundations in Information Technology
You are needed!
The developing world represents the smallest number of internet users yet at the same time their growth in using the internet is the fastest. In these places knowing how to use a computer and having information technology (IT) skills can make a huge impact as they are fast catching up with more advanced countries. Now is the time to go into these places with IT skills and training to help bring transformation.
Foundations in Information Technology is designed to train the IT missionaries that will go into the developing world to meet its need for IT skills. This need is evident in missions as well. IT is making a difference in how we do our work and how we communicate. IT is also creating ways to multiply evangelism and training over the internet. IT is impacting mercy ministry by bringing transformation through providing needed skills to those without means to support their families. IT can bring awareness to the rest of the world as to what is happening in remote locations, or when areas are affected by disaster IT can help facilitate the relief efforts.
Learn!
As a student you will learn the basics of computers, operating systems, and common computer programs. Over the course of the three month lecture phase you will be introduced to:
-
Computer architecture
-
Build a computer network
-
Setting up computer servers
-
Troubleshooting IT related issues
-
Using video conferencing technologies
-
Building a website
-
Computer programming
Together we, staff and students, will be challenged to see God as the creator of technology, and learn about His desire to use IT for His glory. We will learn the answers to the questions. How can we co-create with God so that we can bring innovation and creative solutions to the mission field? How does God want an IT skilled individual to act and serve in the place they are called?
Go!
After the lecture phase you will take part in a two month field assignment. The field assignment will put you into real world situations where you will be able to apply the IT skills you gained during the lecture phase. You will be able to train others how to use computers. You will gain confidence in using IT skills to solve real world challenges. You will learn to think outside of the classroom, and discover that you can learn as you provide solutions to the challenges you will face in the real world. You will see firsthand about the pressing need for IT skills in the world.
