The Crossroads Discipleship Training School attracts those who have ” life experience” and feel that the Lord wants to talk to them about the next season of their life.

Crossroads is designed for people of the ages 25 and over who are seeking spiritual renewal, inspiration, or just a new direction in life.  You will find yourself interacting with speakers, staff, and students who come from different careers, cultures and perspectives other than your own.  God uses this cross-pollination of ideas and experiences to broaden your view of what He has in mind for you.  This five-month course has a 12-week classroom phase followed by an 8-week field assignment (outreach).

It’s a unique opportunity to know God more personally, increase in Christian character, and to become involved in missions.

Our goal is to see you grow in intimacy with God. We will equip you to reach the lost, care for the poor and needy, and convey Jesus’ message to a world that needs to know him. We will help disciple you in finding the vision that God has for your life, and how you can be a part of bringing revival that leads to a reformation in missions.

Crossroads is a true expression of extended family including singles, widows, couples without children, families and single-parent families. Children will have the opportunity to make many friends including kids of their age, other parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents. EVERYONE grows in the Crossroads extended family. We meet together throughout the lecture phase in the classroom, in the prayer room, and free time before we minister together on outreach.

The University of the Nations campus is home to the Foundation School, which has classes for students ages 4-17. This program serves as a Discipleship Training School for a younger audience.  Students learn about God and attend field trips designed to help them gain an appreciation of nature and its Creator. Children of our DTS students also have the opportunity to attend Foundation School with kids from other schools.

The Foundation School focuses mainly on the spiritual life of a child, but the teachers are also trained to help students improve in traditional academic topics as well.

Amy Ward

Amy Ward serves on the YWAM Kona University of the Nations core leadership team and has been a part of YWAM for 10 years, leading multiple DTS’s and YWAM ministries. Her husband Phillip Ward serves as the director of Campus Development. This year, Amy is bringing leadership and vision to the Crossroads DTS’s in YWAM Kona.

Marjo & Ari Loponen

Marjo and Ari Loponen did their own, life-changing DTS with YWAM Kona, Hawaii in 2012. They are from Finland and lead the September Crossroads DTS. Before YWAM Marjo worked in national parliament in Finland, and Ari has a business background. They have three children, one of them live in Finland, and the two youngest ones are in Kona.

They love to serve and build God’s Kingdom together. Marjo loves deep conversations, worship and she keeps things in order, Ari loves reading and building community in the Kingdom way.

Cameron & Larissa Hodgson

The Hodgson’s are a family of four from New Zealand who lead the January Crossroads.

Cameron was born & raised in NZ.  Larissa too is from NZ, but mostly grew up traveling the world as her parents joined Mercy Ships before she was ever born.

Cam’s brother convinced him one year to do a DTS, which is where the two met.  He ended up spending New Year’s with Larissa and her family before leaving for Kona to do his Fire & Fragrance DTS with Amy Ward.  The rest was history!  They got married and together, came to Kona to do an SBS course, staffed and led some BCC’s at Ships.  They had their first baby, Elsie here in Hawaii and if she could have it her way, she would be a horse or a mermaid.

Jude, their youngest was born back in New Zealand.  He loves to be outdoors, looking at the sky, and playing with trains and cars.  When he gets bored and rambunctious, they call him ‘Mr. Destructo’!

Cam and Larissa feel strongly called here to lead Crossroads DTS and are so excited to get to know each of you.

Celebrating the Goodness of God

Celebrating the Goodness of God  ⋅  10/05/17

There are many aspects to Crossroads.  We work hard, study hard, lean into God for our needs and many other life changing things.  But one aspect that is often left out of the Christian life is celebration.  Hawaii provides us with a beautiful backdrop to celebrate all the ways God changes  us during the lecture phase of the school. 2017 Outreach to Syrian Refugees in Germany

2017 Outreach to Syrian Refugees in Germany  ⋅  10/05/17

One of the most difficult aspects of life in a refugee camp for children is the sheer boredom.  We learned to play a great game in Hawaii using a parachute.  Kids love it and it brings the whole family out to watch.  Many invite us back into their living quarters to talk and to share tea.  Physical and emotional healings are taking place and many doors are being opened to…

Music Track

Music is the language of this generation. For those of us with musical talents, we have a special opportunity to speak to the hearts of the lost and broken in a way that can tear down walls and allow their hearts to hear the Gospel. The Music Track is designed to raise up musicians that are committed to loving God and using their gifts to impact the world. This impact is not limited to a specific style, but rather unified by our commitment to creatively express the heart of God with character and excellence.

Media Track

The Media Track is for storytellers who want to give our generation permission to wildly follow Jesus with all their heart. We will using our skills in photography, film making, design and storytelling to work on creating social media campaigns, short films and podcasts that highlight God’s story in our lives and in the nations. Bring your cameras, drones and microphones. Come ready to collaborate, develop your skills and be pushed to create real content as a part of the YWAM Kona team.

Respect the Corners Track

Respect the Corners exists to raise up godly mentors and courageous pioneers who will use the the platform of fitness to exalt the name of Jesus in the nations of the earth. Through God’s power, and our obedience, many lives will be transformed. We will equip Functional Fitness trainers to be dynamic, life changing coaches who through their lives will impact the lost, make new disciples and never stop giving their lives for the Gospel. We desire to dethrone safe, self-focused living and we exalt Jesus by laying down our lives for the least, last, and the lost. We will use our fitness to bring the gospel to the hardest places on earth to reach.

Compassion Ablaze Track

Compassion Ablaze demonstrates the love of Jesus through acts of mercy. Our heart is for the margins of society and for issues of injustice – for women and children-at-risk, those caught in the trap of systemic poverty, those without a voice, the homeless, those struggling with life addictions, and those have been sexually abused, trafficked or enslaved. We don’t just want to talk about bringing the joy and freedom of the Gospel to the hard places, we want to actually do it, to do whatever it takes to bring the presence and fragrance of heaven to those too often forgotten.

Dance Track

What does it mean to be a dancer with a calling from the Lord? This is the place to dive into that, finding new levels of freedom and creativity. We will release dancers in Spirit (discipleship/lectures) & Truth (technique/rehearsals/performances). We know that an artist’s creativity & spiritual authority go together, and we are committed to give dancers a place to walk fully in who God has called them to be as dancers.

Tekton Trades Track

You will be trained in basic structural trades that you will use to accomplish projects on your outreach. Some of the skills will include welding, iron working, rough carpentry, finish carpentry and masonry. You will learn to work as a team to accomplish what we could never do alone. We couldn’t be more excited about this track and what God is going to do through it and we are so stoked to give people permission to co-create with God to see transformation on every level and sphere of society.

Farm Track

The Farm track is designed to teach you how to teach others about sustainable, natural farming. You will learn principles which can be taken on the mission field, urban areas, rural areas and even your own back yard. You will learn by doing it hands on! Come learn more about how to better steward what our Creator has given us. Our aim is to teach students these things so that they can teach others. What better way to show the love of God than by meeting felt needs which leads to addressing spiritual needs. As you learn these principles you will have opportunities to share them in real situations.

Messengers Track

Powerful communicators galvanize people towards action. Learn the importance of living your message. Transform communities through discipleship. Get the coaching you need to become a dynamic communicator and help people experience the love and truth of God.

Prayer Room Track

Worship and intercession are pillars of our community. Learn the skills to pioneer houses of prayer around the world. Help others connect with Jesus and contend for God’s love to transform society.
